Ballooning is a fair weather activity, inclement weather conditions may cause flights to be cancelled or rescheduled, so keep that possibility in mind when planning your adventure with us. Please don’t be upset if we have to inform you that it is not flyable on the day of your flight. We can not control the weather. All flight decisions are made in the best interest of the safety of our guests. We would love to fly all of the time but sometimes Mother Nature just doesn’t cooperate.
Please call to check on the status of your flight between 4:00 & 6:00 PM the night before your flight is scheduled. We will have a pretty good idea about the weather and we will know exactly what our meeting time will be. Generally our meeting time is 30 minutes before sunrise. Call 208-615-1004
On the day of your flight when we meet we will have someone checking you in and placing you with a pilot and a balloon. The pilot will introduce himself but can’t stay long because he needs to concentrate on getting the aircraft ready for flight. Feel free to ask questions and take pictures. If you would like to help set the balloon up let the person at check in know and they can make arrangements to have you help.
Assumption of Risk Waiver
All passengers must read, understand and sign our Assumption of Risk waiver. In the case of minors under 18 a parent or legal guardian must sign the agreement. Please review and sign the waiver and bring it with you the day of your flight. One risk waiver per person please. Waivers will be collected at passenger check in.
What makes the hot air balloon rise?
Hot Air! A pair of high-powered propane burners ignites and heats liquid propane that is aimed into the balloon to make it rise. The burners create 38 million BTU’s of heat. In comparison, an average home barbecue generates 30,000 BTU’s. Each flight uses approximately 30 – 35 gallons of propane.
How do you steer the balloon?
Hot Air Balloons cannot be steered like a plane or helicopter. Balloons travel only in the direction of the wind. There may be different wind directions at different altitudes that the pilot may use to maneuver the balloon. Upon landing, our ‘Chase Crew’ that has been following the balloon since lift off retrieves the balloon and passengers and returns them to the launch location
Can anyone fly the balloon?
To fly a hot air balloon you must be a licensed balloon pilot. Much like a fixed wing pilot, balloon pilots go through extensive training including ground school, written exams and hands-on flying.
What happens if I don’t fly this season? Will my voucher still be valid?
As ballooning is weather dependent we have to cancel your flight if conditions are not safe. If your flight is canceled, please call us and we will reschedule you for another date. Sometimes passengers can be canceled a few times before being able to fly.
What can cause a cancellation of a flight?
As safety of the passengers, crew and equipment is of utmost priority, flights will sometimes have to be cancelled. Various factors can cause cancellation such as weather conditions, equipment malfunction or pilot injury or illness. Your safety is our concern and we will not fly if this is jeopardized. If your flight is cancelled we simply reschedule you for another day.
What happens if I don’t want to use my balloon ride voucher?
All vouchers are prepaid in full and are non-refundable. We do understand that sometimes passengers situations change and they no longer can or wish to use their balloon ride vouchers. For this reason, the vouchers are transferable. If you wish to transfer your voucher to another party, please ensure their health or ability is not restricted. Simply let us know who you have transferred the voucher to and we will adjust the file so they can continue to schedule on it.
How much does it cost?
Please call us at 208-615-1004 for information on hot air balloon flight fares.
Are reservations required?
Yes, reservations are a must, please call us at 208-615-1004 to reserve your flight!
What if I need to make changes to my reservation? Are there any refunds?
We have a cancellation policy to protect everyone in case plans happen to change between the time of reservation and the scheduled flight time. Cancellations or changes to your reservations can be made up to 48 hours prior to the scheduled flight time with no consequences whatsoever. Cancellations within 48 hours of flight time may carry certain penalties.
See our policies section for further details on our cancellation policy.
What weather conditions are required?
Hot air balloon flights require ideal weather conditions, however, just because it’s a beautiful sunny day, understand that it may not necessarily be a perfect day to go hot air ballooning. The wind speed should be less than 8 miles per hour, and there must be no thunderstorm activity within 50-100 miles. Balloons don’t fly in the rain, even if it has stopped raining recently before flight time, there may be more bad weather on the way.
It is ultimately the pilot-in-command’s judgment on whether or not the weather is suitable for flight, and that decision is made solely in the interest of safety. We’d love to fly all the time, but sometimes it’s just not going to happen. There’s an old and wise saying we use in the ballooning circle – “It’s better to be on the ground wishing we were up there, than to be in the air wishing we were down here!”
Weather cancellations can and do occur, so please have patience. Sometimes we just cannot fly on your chosen date. We will reschedule you at a convenient later date as many times as necessary until your flight is completed, however, gift certificates will not be refunded due to a weather cancellation.
Is tipping allowed?
Absolutely! Our crews work hard to make sure that you have a safe, fun flight.
